Communications & Development Specialist
Position Overview
  • Position: Communications & Development Specialist
  • Compensation: $60,000-$70,000 annually plus comprehensive benefits
  • Location: Washington, DC with a Hybrid schedule – Tuesdays and Wednesdays in office.

  • Reports to: Director of Development and Communications
  • Experience: 2-4+ years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, or marketing, advanced experience with CRM Systems.

About the Position

The Communications & Development Specialist supports the Wendt Center’s fundraising, communications, and donor engagement efforts through high‑quality content creation, high-proficiency database management, and event coordination. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented, creative professional who thrives in a mission‑driven environment and wants to help expand the Center’s visibility and philanthropic impact. The Specialist reports to the Director of Development & Communications and collaborates with program, clinical, and administrative teams.

Key Responsibilities

Development Support

  • Support annual fundraising efforts across foundation giving, individual giving, donor stewardship, and corporate partnership outreach.
  • Prepare donor acknowledgments, impact updates, donor/funder briefs, and stewardship materials.
  • Assist with funder and donor research, proposal drafting, and reporting.

Database Oversight

  • Oversee the maintenance, accuracy, and integrity of the donor database, including gift entry, coding, segmentation, and reporting.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply moves management principles to cultivate, steward, and advance donor relationships through intentional, strategic touchpoints.
  • Implement data hygiene practices and ensure consistent data standards across the organization.
  • Produce regular reports and dashboards to support fundraising analysis and forecasting.
  • Train staff on database procedures and support organization‑wide data consistency.

Communications & Content Creation

  • Develop and publish content for newsletters, social media, website updates, and donor communications.
  • Create compelling stories that highlight client impact, program outcomes, and organizational milestones.
  • Maintain brand consistency aligned with the Center’s values of healing, kindness, collaboration, and learning.
  • Support media outreach and the development of press materials.

Event Coordination

  • Assist with planning and executing the annual Benefit Gala and other fundraising or community events.
  • Produce event materials, talking points, guest lists, donor lookout books, promotional content, etc.
  • Support donor engagement and stewardship activities before, during, and after events.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work with program and clinical teams to gather stories, data, and updates for communications and fundraising materials.
  • Lead the production of the internal newsletter by gathering updates from staff, drafting and editing content, designing the layout, and managing timely distribution.
  • Support the Director of Development & Communications in strengthening departmental systems and workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to promote volunteer engagement, donations, and recognition.

Administrative Support

  • Support scheduling, meeting preparation, and follow‑up to keep development priorities and workflows moving smoothly.
  • Maintain organized files, track deadlines and deliverables, and ensure key materials are accessible and up to date.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal teams, vendors, and partners, ensuring timely communication and effective coordination.
  • Carry out related tasks and projects that support departmental goals and organizational priorities.
Qualifications

Required

  • 2–4+ years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, marketing, or related fields.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Advance experience with CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Boomerang, DonorPerfect).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data.
  • Utilize Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, OneNote, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to support efficient communication, collaboration, and workflow management.

Preferred

  • Experience in trauma‑informed, mental health, or human‑services organizations.
  • Graphic design or digital media skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience supporting fundraising events and donor stewardship.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $60,000 – $70,000
  • Hybrid schedule (Tuesday and Wednesday onsite in Washington, DC). The responsibilities across development department areas may shift occasionally based on project timelines and event schedules.

Temporary Raiser’s Edge Data Specialist

About the Position

The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing is seeking a Temporary Raiser’s Edge Data Specialist to support critical database cleanup, maintenance, and data integrity projects within our Development and Communications Department. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy professional who thrives in a mission-driven environment and is committed to excellence in data management.

The Temporary Raiser’s Edge Data Specialist will play a key role in strengthening the accuracy, consistency, and functionality of our donor database. This position will focus on data cleanup, record maintenance, gift entry review, and other tasks essential to ensuring the integrity of our fundraising and stewardship systems.

This is a temporary, project-based position with an anticipated duration of 3–6 months, depending on project scope and workflow needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive data cleanup, including duplicate resolution, record standardization, and field normalization
  • Review and update constituent records to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Audit and reconcile gift entries, pledge payments, and fund allocations
  • Support database maintenance, including global changes, queries, and exports
  • Assist with reporting needs for Development and Finance teams
  • Document processes and data standards to support long-term database health
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent data entry practices and adherence to organizational protocols
  • Assist in building, organizing, and maintaining moves management workflows, including tracking donor cultivation steps, updating pipeline stages, and providing staff support to ensure consistent and effective use of the system.

  • Demonstrated experience with Raiser’s Edge (RE NXT preferred)
  • Strong understanding of donor database management and fundraising operations
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with nonprofit development operations is a plus
Compensation and Benefits
  • Temporary, part-time or full-time hours available depending on candidate availability

Part-Time Child and Teen Grief and Trauma Psychotherapist (active DC LICSW or LPC only)
Position Overview
  • Position: Part Time Therapist
  • Compensation: $55 per session held
  • Location: Washington, DC (combination of in person and telehealth offerings)
  • Role Type: Part time. Paid per session, with some option for paid administrative time
  • Reports to: Clinical Director
  • Degree: Graduate level degree in mental health required
  • License: Must have and maintain an independent District of Columbia mental health license (LICSW or LPC only) and be eligible to acquire Virginia and Maryland licensure
  • Experience: 2 years of experience treating children and teens at the independent clinical level

About the Position

Join our team of mental health professionals who combine their expertise in grief and trauma with their passion for providing high quality services to all. The Wendt Center offers a hybrid work environment, ongoing CE trainings and professional development, peer support and supervision to support its commitment to our highly valued therapists.

You would provide psychotherapy to diverse child and teen clients who have experienced a death related loss or traumatic event. Children aged 5-8 are seen in our offices, and children 9-18 have the option to engage in teletherapy or office visits, depending on the assessment of the therapist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Works between 7-15 hours per week and sees between 6 and 13 clients as assigned (schedule is flexible)
  • Provides individual grief and trauma counseling services to children and teens
  • Provides in-person services at least one day per week at our office
  • Provides therapy services between 4 and 8pm or teletherapy services on weekends
  • Completes a clinical assessment, treatment plan, and diagnosis within a week of a client’s initial session
  • Maintains current clinical case records and provides reports as needed, completes notes, updates, etc. according to agency standards and timelines
  • Maintains therapy rooms and materials to professional standards
  • Contacts collateral professionals and others in the community regarding cases when appropriate
  • Meets with supervisor regarding caseload and clinical and aministrative concerns when appropriate
  • Maintains updated, current client schedule via online EHR system
  • Provides caseload information to Director and other colleagues for statistical, program, and grant development purposes
  • Completes online insurance panel credentialing process in a timely manner according to provided instructions
  • Uses email regularly to remain informed of Wendt Center business
Qualifications
  • Graduate level degree in mental health
  • MUST have and maintain an independent District of Columbia mental health license (LICSW or LPC only) and be eligible to acquire Virginia and Maryland licensure
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing individual therapy to children and teens at the Independent Clinical level
  • Proven professional background working in trauma, grief, and loss
  • Must have ability to provide teletherapy services from home in a confidential space, or come to the office to provide them
Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary of $55.00 per session held. Also compensated for administrative time (documentation and meetings attended) at $18.00/hour. Eligible for professional development stipend, state license renewal fees, and free continuing education training within the center (with CEs awarded).
