Illness, death and loss are integral parts of life and cannot be avoided. While many people manage painful separation and loss with the support of trusted family, friends, and clergy, many others benefit from professional help. Counseling can be especially beneficial to those experiencing complicated grief situations which may involve multiple losses, the stress of a long-term illness or follow the sudden or traumatic death of a loved one. Grief counseling is often about finding new solutions to problems of living, or about changing relationships in the context of loss. Our trained, experienced therapists accompany adults and families as they readjust to a world that has drastically changed. Grief counseling is our specialty. We have learned and benefited from nearly 30 years of experience working with individuals facing many different situations of illness and grief. Our therapists have all experienced grief in their personal lives. We are not afraid to witness pain and we know that we cannot "take it away" or "fix it." But, we can provide a safe, confidential place to travel this often painful journey. We understand. Persons living with grief may feel despair, have difficulty concentrating or accomplishing the simplest tasks, or feel as if they are "going crazy." It is common for physical problems to occur during the grief process. Each person's grief experience is totally unique. Even people in the same family, grieving for the same loved one, experience loss differently. Our wealth of experience with many grief situations strengthens our ability to guide individuals through difficult times and toward healing. We offer a variety of services to meet the needs of our community, including individual, couple, family and group counseling. Day, evening and weekend appointments are available. Every effort is made to find the therapist most suited to the client's needs. As it is difficult to project how long grief work will take, services are available for as long as an individual or a family needs. Our standard fee for counseling services is $125.00 per hour. However, we accept insurance and offer a sliding scale (based on household income) to ensure our services are accessible by anyone in need. For more information, call us at (202) 624-0010.
