In order to receive grief or trauma therapy at the Wendt Center, you’ll need to complete our Intake process. Intake involves a conversation with one of our clinicians to help us understand:
- Why you’re looking for services
- Whether you plan to use insurance
- What your availability is to see one of our therapists
Once you complete intake, we’ll activate a patient portal for you so that you can upload your government issued ID and your insurance cards if applicable. As soon as that’s done, you’ll go on the waitlist.
How long you’ll be on the waitlist depends mostly on your scheduling availability and preferences. If you’re able to come during daytime hours (9–5), we can usually offer an appointment sooner. Because everyone’s availability is different, we’re not able to give an exact estimate for how long your wait will be.
Insurance and Fees
We are in-network with the following insurance providers:
- DC Medicaid MCOs: Amerihealth Caritas, HSCSN, Medstar Family Choice, and Wellpoint (formerly Amerigroup)
- Carefirst/BlueCross/Anthem
- Cigna
- Medicare Part A & B (no Advantage plans): Please note, initial sessions have to be in person due to Medicare Rules.
We also have grant funding available to provide free therapy services to crime victims who are residents of DC or for which the crime occurred in DC.
For other interested clients, you may be able to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurer and we are able to provide a superbill. We do take HSA/FSA.
As of 1/1/2025, our self-pay or out-of-pocket fees are:
- Initial assessment: $220
- 60-minute counseling session: $180
- Group session: $50
- Reduced Fee services may be available through our clinical training programs.
Schedule
Our services are currently offered Monday through Friday. We do not see clients on weekends.
Our In-Person services are only available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
In most cases, appointments occur at the same day and time each week. If a weekly, consistent schedule isn’t possible for you, our services may not be the best fit.
Matching with a Therapist
You might be aware of therapy practices where you can choose your clinician based on their interests or specialties. At the Wendt Center, all our clinicians have advanced skill in grief an dtrauma, so our priority is to connect you with a therapist as quickly as possible. When assigning you to a clinician, we focus on three things: getting you scheduled soon; matching you with someone who can bill your insurance or payer; and identifying a therapist we believe will be a good fit.
If you have qualities or preferences you’re hoping for in a therapist, you’re welcome to share them with the Intake Clinician. Please keep in mind though that specific requests may increase your wait time.
Once you begin therapy, if you feel your sessions aren’t meeting your needs, we encourage you to talk openly with your therapist. Together, you may decide that transferring to another clinician would better support your goals.
