I was stuck in pain and in shock until I came to the Wendt Center. I have gained so much insight and peace. My emotional reactiveness has calmed. The combination of individual and group therapy has been golden for me. I am forever grateful.
— Wendt Center Client
Our group therapy offers a place for people to learn about and experience the many emotions associated with grief and trauma in a safe, therapeutic community. Our group team is here to help you figure out if a group is the most appropriate service for your needs, or to make other recommendations.
Groups for Death Related Loss, Anticipatory Grief, or Intimate Partner Violence
- Therapy groups are held primarily via telehealth on Zoom, with some in-person offerings at our office near the Van Ness metro station on the Red Line.
- Therapy groups are always led by licensed clinicians.
- Most groups are “closed” groups that have the same members for 8-12 sessions. The sessions are usually either 75 or 90 minutes.
- Our groups are formed based on how many people are on the waitlist, so there is not a set schedule of when each group occurs.
- Below is our current list of payment options:
- DC Medicaid MCOs: Amerigroup; Amerihealth; Healthcare for Children with Special Needs; Medstar Family Choice
- Employer or Marketplace Insurance: Carefirst/Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem; Cigna/Evernorth
- Medicare: Medicare Part B. We are not considered in network with Medicare Advantage Plans.
- Grant Funding: We currently have grant funding which covers the cost of services for DC residents who were the victims or survivors of crime anywhere in the world, or for Maryland or Virginia residents who were the victims or survivors of crime in Washington, DC.
- Self-Pay or Out of Pocket: $50 per session
- If you have questions about our group offerings, feel free to email groups@wendtcenter.org
- All inquiries are confidential. We do not accept referrals from third parties, and you can only complete intake for yourself or a minor over whom you have legal medical decision-making authority.
